Flairnet runs a freelance writing course designed to teach students the craft of writing for magazines and newspapers. It covers every aspect of freelance writing.

This course takes about six months to complete. Most students require about 120 hours work over that time to complete the assignments and write their articles.

Many people would like to contribute articles to popular magazines, trade journals and newspapers, but don't know how to go about writing. Others who want to write do not have the formal training provided by tertiary-level courses.

During the course you will write four articles under our guidance and submit them to magazines or newspapers.

You will learn how to get ideas. But an idea is merely the starting point. The next step is to take that idea, explore it, and look for ways to develop it. Everyone has plenty to write about. You will match potential markets, or magazines, to your selected topics. You will soon realise that more than one magazine could be interested in a topic, or a different slant on a particular topic. It's called working smarter, not harder.

You will learn how to break a major article down in size into manageable sections with the use of headings, and rearrange those headings in a sensible, logical order. The task that follows will be much easier.

Your tutor

Your tutor for the freelance writing course will be Graham Andrews. Graham is a published author, freelance writer, scientific editor and technical writer with over 25 years experience in writing, editing and publication production.

We provide individual tuition

You will work with your tutor on a one-to-one basis where he provides instruction and supervision at each step of the writing process. Submit your outline or your first draft and your tutor will guide you through the whole of the writing process. He will advise you of ways to improve your work to make it interesting and meaningful. Together, you will create dynamic articles to a publishable standard.
